Travel Guides for Asia

Researched, dated country guides covering the best time to visit, visas and entry rules, realistic daily costs, how to get around, money and cards, and what official sources say about safety. Each reviewed guide names the sources it draws on and the date it was last checked.

How to use these guides

Start with the season. Asia is not one climate: Sri Lanka has two monsoons striking opposite coasts, so the beach weather is always good somewhere; mainland Southeast Asia runs a dry season roughly November to April; Japan, Nepal and northern India have short shoulder seasons that dictate everything from prices to whether a trek is open. Picking the month before the itinerary saves more money and disappointment than any other decision.

Then check the entry requirements on the official portal we link to, not the sponsored result above it — visa intermediaries routinely charge several times the government fee. Finally, budget for the things travellers forget: national park entry fees, train seat reservations, airport transfers and the local SIM. Our cost sections price these in local currency and USD.

On safety information

We report only what official bodies publish, and we say when nothing has been published. For Sri Lanka we ingest Disaster Management Centre, NBRO and Department of Meteorology bulletins on a schedule, map towns to the districts warnings actually name, and time-stamp every answer. Colomboh is not affiliated with any government body, and nothing here replaces official travel advice.
